A comprehensive prevention strategy for reducing the threat of cervical cancer has been called for by the World Medical Association and the Medical Women's International Association.
In a joint statement to mark international women's day tomorrow, the two organisations demand action for women and girls around the world to have equal access to the highest quality prevention and treatment options for cervical cancer and say that such a strategy should include screening and vaccination.
Dr. Shelley Ross, Secretary-General of the Medical Women's International Association, said: 'Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women. But it is now preventable due to the availability of a vaccine against human papillomavirus (HPV)'.
She said that every year cervical cancer affected 500,000 women and took the lives of a quarter million women worldwide. Women in poor countries were the most affected, with 80 per cent of the deaths from cervical cancer due to extremely limited screening and treatment availability.
Dr. Ross added: 'When reflecting back on major advances in women's health in years to come, HPV vaccine will be listed as one of the major breakthroughs. It is urgent that governments across the world start prioritizing cervical cancer with sustainable political and financial commitments. Not doing so means losing lives. It means also not granting to women and girls in poor countries the right to equal access to life-saving technologies'.
Four of the common types of HPV could be prevented through vaccination although there was currently no treatment available which could cure an HPV infection. HPV vaccine therefore had the potential to substantially reduce the prevalence of cervical cancer, although not to eradicate it.
Dr. Jon Snaedal, President of the WMA, said 'Medical associations have a key role to play in this strategy in making information on HPV vaccine available to physicians and to encourage physicians to alert their patients on this innovation'.
'Cost must not be a barrier to making the vaccine available to women and girls worldwide. We are calling for a strong mobilisation of decision-makers, international organisations, international donor community and development partners, as well as medical associations, civil society and industry to act now for a change, to stop cervical cancer'.

Causes and symptoms
Kidney stones can be composed of a variety of substances. The most common types of kidney stones include:
Calcium stones. About 80% of all kidney stones fall into this category. These stones are composed of either calcium and phosphate, or calcium and oxalate. People with calcium stones may have other diseases that cause them to have increased blood levels of calcium. These diseases include primary parathyroidism, sarcoidosis, hyperthyroidism, renal tubular acidosis, multiple myeloma, hyperoxaluria, and some types of cancer. A diet heavy in meat, fish, and poultry can cause calcium oxalate stones.
Struvite is the name given to the crystal composed of Magnesium, Ammonium, and Phosphate. (Struvite is also occasionally referred to as Triple Phosphate due to an old erroneous belief that the phosphate ion was bonded to 3 positive ions instead of just magnesium and ammonium.) Struvite crystals are not unusual in normal urine and are usually of no consequence but when the are present in very large amounts, they can form stones.
Heredity: Some people are more susceptible to forming kidney stones, and heredity certainly plays a role. The majority of kidney stones are made of calcium, and hypercalciuria (high levels of calcium in the urine), is a risk factor. The predisposition to high levels of calcium in the urine may be passed on from generation to generation. Some rare hereditary diseases also predispose some people to form kidney stones.
Cystine stones are yellow and crystalline. They develop if you have high levels of cystine in your urine, which happens if you have a hereditary disorder called cystinuria. Only one in a hundred kidney stones are caused by this condition. Cystine stones tend to develop earlier in life than other kidney stones, usually between the ages of 10 and 30 years.
Sudden spasms of excruciating pain (renal or uteric colic) - this usually starts in the back below the ribs, before radiating around the abdomen, and sometimes to the groin and genitalia.
Natural Treatment for Kidney Stones
Small stones that aren't causing symptoms, obstruction, or an infection usually don't need to be treated. Drinking plenty of fluids increases urine production and helps wash out some stones; once a stone is passed, no other immediate treatment is needed. The pain of renal colic may be relieved with narcotic analgesics.
Eat a whole foods diet that contains leafy green vegetables, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and fish and poultry in small portions. Include foods that have a high ratio of magnesium to calcium such as brown rice, bananas, oats, barley, and soy, and that are high in fiber such as oat bran, psyllium seed husk, and flaxseed meal.

Sciatica exercises are extremely important to the long-term relief and management of disc-related sciatica. Although a number of different exercises for sciatica are recommended by various experts and non-experts alike, only a few are actually appropriate during an acute, severely painful sciatica episode, and some of the most commonly-suggested sciatica exercises may actually make things worse when used during times of acute pain.
For example, while commonly recommended to people with sciatica, exercises such as hamstring stretches and the yoga position, "downward facing dog" can be beneficial as part of managing one's condition once the pain is reduced, these exercises can place tension on the sciatic nerve and aggravate an already inflamed and sensitive condition. In general, any exercise that causes pain to increase in the leg and/or extend further down the leg should be completely avoided during the acute phase of sciatica.
During the acute phase of sciatica pain, McKenzie exercises provide one of the best and safest treatment approaches available - more effective than medication and epidural steroid injections in many people. Though often associated with spinal extension and mistakenly called the "McKenzie Extension Exercises", McKenzie method may involve any number of spinal positions/movements. The underlying principle of the McKenzie technique is to test various positions and exercises to determine what will create the most "centralization" of the pain and other symptoms.
McKenzie practitioners use the word "centralization" when the pain and other symptoms are relieved in the areas the greates distance away from the spine. For example, if you had sciatica that went all the way to the foot, centralization would be if the symptoms left the foot and perhaps only went as far down as the knee. If the pain extended to the knee at first, an example of centralization would be a situation in which the pain would leave the thigh and only extedown s far as the hip.
A position or exercise that results in symptom centralization is one that will be beneficial, even in situations where symptoms increase for a time in areas closer to the spine. For example, if you had sciatica and low back pain and tried one of of the McKenzie exercises and the sciatica completely went away but the back pain got worse, the exercise would still be considered beneficial and it would be recommended to continue using it. In the long run, a sciatica exercise that produces centralization will usually eventually result in improvement in all symptoms, even if more central (closer to the spine) symptoms get worse at first.
The simplest of the McKenzie exercises for alleviating sciatica is done by simply lying on one's stomach on the floor or a firm surface and propping one's chest up on the elbows. This places the lower spine in a gentle extension, which can help relieve sciatica by pushing bulging spinal discs forward, and away from the nerve roots that form the sciatic nerve, reducing pressure and irritation. This position can be maintained for several minutes at a time when helpful, but I suggest using it for one to two minutes at a time with at least a few minutes' break in between. The frequent breaks prevent the low back muscles from tightening up as much, and yet still allows for good overall results. For more complex sciatica exercises, getting detailed instructions either through an illustrated guide or an experienced health care practitioner is advised.

A Permanent wave is a service that creates permanent curl, waves, or body. To achieve this, hair is wound around small plastic curlers, called rods. Once every strand is rolled, locks are saturated with waving lotion.
